How early do fans really arrive for a game?
According to the 2025 Spectator Sports Safety and Security Survey by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS⁴), most fans (76%) arrive 30 minutes or less before the event starts, with 40% arriving right around that 30-minute mark. This highlights how essential fast and efficient screening is when thousands of people are entering in a short time frame.
The study found the following fan arrival patterns before events:
- 40% — Around 30 minutes before start time
- 36% — Within 15 minutes of start time
- 12% — About one hour before start time
- 8% — More than one hour before start time
- 4% — Other or variable arrival time
When most fans arrive at nearly the same time, security checkpoints can quickly become bottlenecks. Choosing the right screening system is critical to maintaining safety without slowing down entry. A system must balance thorough detection with speed, allowing large groups to pass efficiently while keeping security teams confident in their results.
